It causes irreversible vision loss due to damage to the optic nerve. The loss of sight is usually gradual and a considerable amount of peripheral (side) vision may be lost before there is an awareness of any problem. Unfortunately there is no cure for glaucoma, and vision loss is irreversible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#1e73be\" class=\"tadv-color\">2 in 100<\/span><\/strong> Australians will develop glaucoma in their lifetime<br><strong><span style=\"color:#1e73be\" class=\"tadv-color\">50%<\/span><\/strong> of people with glaucoma don&#8217;t know they have it<br><strong><span style=\"color:#1e73be\" class=\"tadv-color\">10 x<\/span><\/strong> more likely to develop glaucoma if a direct relative has it<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><span style=\"color:#767676\" class=\"tadv-color\">Source: Glaucoma Australia<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>6-12 March 2022 is World Glaucoma Week.
