For your lens to do its job properly, it has to be transparent.&nbsp;When the lens becomes cloudy, this is known as a cataract. Having a cataract can be like looking through a foggy or dirty window and is a leading cause of vision impairment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-gray-color has-text-color\">While most cataracts are found in people over the age of 50, cataracts can also occur at younger ages. Cataracts may:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"block-5ba916e3-74c1-4f1d-b1c7-3b699b424446\" class=\"has-light-gray-color has-text-color\"><li>be age-related<\/li><li>be congenital<\/li><li>occur secondary to conditions such as glaucoma or diabetes<\/li><li>result from trauma to the eye<\/li><li>result from radiation treatment for other diseases, such as cancer<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#be5676\"><strong>SYMPTOMS OF CATARACTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-gray-color has-text-color\">Symptoms of cataracts may include:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"block-d5430a55-8b5d-4ce9-a668-d4399c3244ec\"><li><span style=\"color:#767676\" class=\"tadv-color\">blurry or distorted vision<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#767676\" class=\"tadv-color\">increased sensitivity to bright light and glare<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#767676\" class=\"tadv-color\">faded or washed-out colours<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#767676\" class=\"tadv-color\">double vision<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#767676\" class=\"tadv-color\">decreased vision in low light<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color:#767676\" class=\"tadv-color\">milky\/white spot over the pupil<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color:#be5676\"><strong>CATARACT SURGERY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-gray-color has-text-color\">Because cataracts often progress slowly, you may not know you have a cataract or whether your cataract is making your vision worse.
